About Laura Zimmerman

Ms. Z.’s favorite part of being an educator is helping struggling readers build upon their strengths in order to develop their literacy skills in a positive and uplifting environment so their reading confidence can soar!

She has a multiple subject teaching credential for grades K-5 (in California) and a Masters of Science in Reading and Literacy. She has been working with children for the last 20 years.

Laura began her career in education as a paraeducator for special education followed by several years as a kindergarten teacher. She quickly realized, with her large class sizes and no aide assistance, that it was impossible for her to give each child what they needed to succeed as a reader.

She began tutoring in the summers and started to see real results when having the time and ability to give kids the individualized attention they needed: learning about their strengths and needs through assessment, creating individualized learning plans for each student and building lessons based on personal interests. With this formula, students are able to succeed because they are given exactly what they need and that feeling of success is exciting for both the student and instructor.

To make her tutoring services accessible, she offers her services virtually.

No matter where you are, if you have a child struggling with reading, want them to gain more literacy skills, practice reading aloud or other, she is available and excited to get started with your child!
